Anit-Bullying Tips For Parents
Bullying is a problem that seems to be on the rise and knows no boundaries. Though it seems to be more popular (or more widely recognized) as a problem among children and teens, it can be found with adults as well. It's not uncommon to find bullies in the work place, not just in school, and can come in many forms including (but not limited to) verbal abuse, physical abuse and cyber bulling in the forms of social media sites, cell phones, and email. BullyFree.com is a great website that has tons of resources and information on bullying. Here's a great article with tips for parents, whether it's finding out you child is being bullied, finding our your child IS the bully, or any other questions a parent might have to keep their child safe. I've included a few examples below, but check out the full article because it has some great information you won't want to miss out on!
Tips for stopping bullying by starting at home:
* Communicate a zero tolerance of mistreatment of others by consistently applying negative consequences for bullying behavior.
*Teach a child to control his/her anger.
*Teach your child that mistreatment and kindness are powerful – creating memories.
Tips for if you find out your child is being bullied:
*Keep a log/diary and take picture of injuries – report physical assaults to school and police.
*If your child says, “No one likes me at school,” don’t disagree.
*Monitor your child’s whereabouts and friendships.
*Ask certain adults at school to befriend your child and to monitor his/her activities.
Tips for if you find out your child IS a bully:
*Discuss the bullying events with your child (who, what, where, etc.) – do not interrogate.
*Require your child to apologize (orally and in writing) to the victim.
*Apply clear, fair, and significant negative consequences (e.g., grounded, child must repay stolen
money, timeout, restore what has been destroyed).

10-Year-Old Boy Ruthlessly Bullied On Bus
New video recently emerged of a 10-year-old boy who was bullied on a school bus in Virginia. The video depicts Cequan Haskins being bullied by two older boys that not only use verbal bullying, but even hold a hot cigarette lighter to Cequan's skin. The bus driver can also be heard in the video "seemingly encouraging the abuse" but was not charged. However both of the teens who were bullying Cequan were charged and convicted of assault and battery as well as disorderly conduct.

National Bullying Story - Bus Lady Bullied By Teens
A bus monitor was ruthlessly bullied by some teens on a school bus in New York. The story has gotten national coverage and has been on pretty much every news station. Karen Klein, the woman bullied, never actually reported the students. It was school officials who learned of the incidents and warned the city police. People were so upset and outraged over the treatment of Klein that a fund was started to collect money for her and send her on vacation - people have since raised over half a million dollars!
