A recent UK
study has shown that more than 90% of British school children have experienced
or witnessed bullying due to a person’s excessive talents. More than a quarter
of students surveyed had quit an activity they enjoyed because of the fear of
being bullied, and about half of them admitted to downplaying a skill or talent
in order to avoid becoming a target for bullies.

High School Theater Program Targets Bullying
Students at Forest Grove High School in Oregon work on an
original play that deals with bullying in schools. “Marked” features students
with and without disabilities that is aimed to show the pain bullying can cause
and ways bystanders can help stop it. Theater director, John Anderberg, wrote “Marked”
based on personally witnessed accounts of bullying and other national bullying
cases themed on special needs victims. Bullying is a serious problem that adds
even more issues to the already troubling life of students with disabilities.
School events that can entertain as well as educated have proven to be
effective ways of spreading knowledge on important issues and should be
available to every student nationwide.

Anti-Bullying PSA Showcase Hosted in Tucson
The second-annual “Step Up, Speak Out, End Bullying”
showcase set to take place on Saturday features 30 second films produced by
students to gain allies against bullying. This year’s theme is “Bystander Empowerment”
where student films will emphasize the impact bystanders can have on different
bullying scenarios. Present at the event is the Tucson local author of “The
Good, the Bad, and the Bullies,” 12-year-old Levi Fallavollita, whose publication
has made great strides in the fight against bullying. Levi, along with students
and parents from around the city plan to attend to drive home the message that
bullying will not be tolerated and anyone can help in the fight.

Anti-Bully Award In Victim's Memory
Jamey Rodemeyer, a victim of bullying, is being honored through an award in his memory.
Rodemeyer grew up in the Buffalo suburb, Amherst. He was relentlessly bullied and sadly led to taking his own life in September 2011.

Massachusetts High Schooler Wins Anti-Bullying Scholarship
High school senior, James Villalobos is awarded $1,500 for
spreading bullying awareness in his school. Villalobos attended the third
annual anti-bullying scholarship gala funded by The Republican’s
Newspaper-in-Education program hosted in honor of two students lost to suicide
due to bullying. The gala awards those who have made strides in the fight
against bullying with money to help further their efforts and aid their
education expenses. More than ever, sponsorships like this have been springing up
across the country and have gained a significant amount of support for bullying
victims and against bullies. We can all learn that standing up against bullying
not only benefits victims, but can also benefit yourself.

Anti-Bullying Facebook Post Influences Change
A father in Wisconsin has inspired bullying reform after defending his victimized son in an internet post that went viral. Mathew Bent, posted a photo with a powerful message that defends bullying victims and condemns schools that take little action against perpetrators. After receiving significant attention, this message has caught the eye of the local school district that now plans to increase anti-bullying programs and strengthen support for victims. Serious consequences due to failure to take action have occurred in nearly every community. TV Networks Join ATF Against Bullying
Cartoon Network and CNN are teaming up with long time bullying
prevention advocates, ATF, to launch anti-bullying Campaign. “Stop
Bullying: Speak Up” is the latest project by these three organizations
that have begun assembling bullying prevention kits containing various
tools for students, teachers, and parents.

Young Boy Spends Prize Money on Anti-Bullying Campaign
11 year old Jeromy Rodriguez believes so strongly in
fighting bullying that he is using his competition prize money to fund an awareness
campaign. “Stop The Bullying” is Jeromy’s project inspired by witnessing
heartbreaking instances of bullying he swore he would help fight. Jeromy had no
sponsor to make his idea a reality until he was awarded $10,000 in prize money
from the Calypso Monarch Competition he plans to use for a video production and
a t-shirt line. With this money, the campaign can help spread bullying
awareness and gain additional sponsors and spokesman. All it takes to help the
fight against bullying is a passionate idea and a little luck to support it.

Iowa Student Sues School over Bullying Negligence
Bullying takes place in almost every school across the
country, but are staff members doing enough to prevent it? One Iowa student
does not think so. Recently, a teen and his grandmother in Des Moines are
filing a lawsuit against his school district claiming staff officials did not
take sufficient actions to punish bullies who caused him brain injuries after
he was struck by a football. The district claims all bullying reports are
investigated and defends their position in this instance.
