A Mississippi mom has been
suspicious for some time that her daughter, 13-year-old Destiny Hughes, was
being bullied and abused in school by a fellow classmate. Her suspicion turned
into reality when a cellphone video was uploaded, showing the 13-year-old
student being brutally punched repeatedly by her peers inside Water Valley High
School.
Hughes was left with bruises after
the attack. Rhonda Hughes, Destiny’s mother had this to say about the incident,
"It makes you outraged and makes you sick to your stomach to watch the
videos. You know, the school has a policy against bullying and violence, but if
they're not going to enforce it, it's not worth the paper it's printed on."
Water Valley High’s superintendent,
Kim Chrestman, refused to show the school’s footage of the beating, in order to
protect the identity of the other student involved in the matter.
Mrs. Hughes says she will be
homeschooling both her children from now on, in fear that her children might be
unsafe in the current school system.
