Educators Get Lessons in Anti-Bullying Tactics

Lying is something people do at all ages, whether you're an adult lying about plans for an evening to avoid going out, or whether your a child lying about doing your homework.. or whether or not someone has been hurting you at school. Teachers in New Jersey are getting lessons to be able to spot the tell-tale signs that a student is lying in order to help put a stop to bullying.

More than 500 teachers and school faculty completed a training sessions led by experts going over such things as police 'interview' techniques, and a powerpoint that showed how to interpret a child's words and body language.

Below are a few examples of signs that show a child might be hiding something.
  • Inappropriate laughter
  • Starting to speak in third person
  • Telling you they have done things … wrong in the past
  • Repeating your question

With this course, many schools are choosing anti-bullying "specialists" to be designated as the go-to person for reporting incidents.

As the article states, "There is no shortage of claims to investigate, with more than 35,000 incidents reported in 2011-12 during the first year of the law, almost half of them confirmed."

All this comes into play after New Jersey decided to pass a new state anti-bullying law. To read more about how New Jersey is revamping their school anti-bullying system, click the link below.
