John Halligan, formerly of Vermont,
urged parents at a presentation to be aware of what their child is doing on the
Internet. In 2003, John lost his son because he was being bullied via rumors on
the Internet among classmates. He explained to parents the dangers of cyber
bullying and what needs to be done to stop it. His son, Ryan, was a little
slower than his peers and was bullied because of it.
The bullying spread to the
Internet and his parents had no idea what was happening. Convince your children
to refrain from using secret passwords and be open to talking with them about
anything that is going on in school or on social networks. With the social
networks becoming more and more popular, the threat of cyber bullying grows
too.
