The defensive coordinator, Dave
Cohen, for Rutgers University’s football team is under fire for allegedly
bullying a freshman player. The player, Jevon Tyree, has quit the team and his
family is asking that the coordinator be disciplined for his actions. Tyree
claims he was called degrading names in a study hall in front of his teammates
and an academic advisor, who later reported the incident.
The player’s family
believes Cohen deserves the same consequences the Rutgers basketball coach
received after a similar bullying case was revealed. Bullying among athletes is
becoming far too common and a psychiatrist stated that Tyree could face
self-esteem issues and depression, and possibly something worse due to the
bullying.
