How School Choice Can Curb Bullying


School choice, which allows parents and students to choose what school they would like to attend, is being looked at as a new way to curb bullying. Students who have been bullied and move on through higher grades with their bullies most likely continue to be bullied. If they are presented with school choice, it is a way for them to escape their bullies.

New York Fights for a Bill Against Workplace Bullying


Mike Schlicht, of New York Healthy Workplace Advocates, was a victim of workplace bullying. He is fighting for a “Healthy Workplace Bill” to prevent bullying in the workplace. Schlicht wants companies to adopt this bill and enforce policies to prevent bullying.

Middle School Club Brings Everyone Together


A Fort Worth, Texas middle school club has been formed called “Gay, Lesbian and Everybody Else” or GLEE. The club has been formed after students wanted a place where they could feel safe among their peers.

Bullying Stinks


Deodorant brand, Secret, is launching a new campaign against bullying, called “Mean Stinks.” The mission of the campaign is to eliminate bullying among teen girls, both face to face and on social media. Secret is asking girls to paint one pinky fingernail blue, which is a pledge to not be a bully.

Parents Speak Up About Anti-Bullying After Another Suicide


Pennsylvania has lost a young high school student after being an alleged victim of bullying. The 15-year –old boy took his fathers rifles and shot himself in the head on Halloween. His mother, Kelly Mead, and other parents attended a meeting at the high school.

Hawaii Cheerleaders Shutdown


According to a Honolulu superintendent and principal, the McKinley High School cheerleading squad has been banned until further investigation is completed in a cyber-bullying case. The girls claim there are no cyber-bullies on their team, nor any type of bully.

Richie Incognito of the Miami Dolphins has been suspended following bullying allegations between him and another teammate, Jonathan Martin. Incognito has been suspended for ‘conduct detrimental to the team.’

A California high school student has been arrested after posting a video to Facebook of him physically attacking another student. In the video, the bully is encouraged by other students to attack the victim.

In Ankeny, Iowa a program known as Rock In Prevention is being used as an anti-bullying tool in the elementary schools as well as high schools.  The program, which has targeted alcohol and other drug abuse in the past is now changing gear in an attempt to curb the massive problem of bullying.

Victim of Bullying Turns To Blogging


Ally Del Monte suffered from excessive bullying, especially on social media sites, from her peers due to her weight gain.  Even her supposed friends turned on her and participated in the online abuse. Ally reportedly received 272 messages on Tumblr, some of which told her she should kill herself.

Many reported cases of bullying among young children are among girls as they are often thought to take more emotional and psychological abuse from their fellow students.  Although there are reported cases of bullying among boys they are often wrote off as boys just being boys and treated as not as serious as the girl’s problems.

Jonathon Martin Placed on Miami Dolphin’s Reserve List


Jonathon Martin, the Miami Dolphin’s rookie offensive tackle, was placed on the reserve list recently due to continued bullying by his teammates.  Martin has been with the dolphins for a little over one season, after being a 2012 second round draft pick.

Maryland Coach Fired for Bullying 8-year-old Player


A peewee football coach was recently fired after allegedly bullying one of his young players.  The 8-year-old’s mother alleges that the coach not only verbally abused her son on the field but also went as far as posting cruel comments on Facebook about her son.
