Many
reported cases of bullying among young children are among girls as they are
often thought to take more emotional and psychological abuse from their fellow
students. Although there are reported
cases of bullying among boys they are often wrote off as boys just being boys
and treated as not as serious as the girl’s problems.
Rosalind Wiseman is the author of “Masterminds and Wingmen: Helping Our Boys
Cope with Schoolyard Power, Locker-Room Tests, Girlfriends, and the New Rules
of Boy World”, a book about the social habits of young boys and how they bully
and deal with bullying. She believes
that there is a difference between boys being boys and cruel, aggressive
bullying. Often time’s school
administration and parents write off bullying assuming that boys will mature
out of this behavior but Wiseman says that this only shows the bullies that
even if they get caught there will be no consequences, so they increase the
bullying. According to a 2013 study by
the Hazelden Foundation young boys and girls get bullied at the same rate, and
it increases among boys as they get older.
