When one thinks of bullying in school it’s usually between students. This article shows that teachers and faculty are sometimes involved. In Appleton Wisconsin, a 15 year old student at Appleton North High School named Benji Backer, was harassed by teachers and faculty for being conservative and supporting Mitt Romney in the last election. According to Backer, he was harassed, called names and witnessed other students being indoctrinated. This happened after these same people emphasized the wrongfulness of bullying against homosexuals and pretty much anyone else, but that didn’t seem to stop them from punishing Backer for his political views.
One teacher went so far as to swear at him in class and ask him about his parents salary so he could compare it to his. Benji and his parents were concerned enough to meet with the Principle about the situation. After that meeting the teacher confronted him. “My teacher asked, ‘You know how you went down to the principal’s office?’” Backer recalled. “I said, yes, and he said, ‘I don’t give a s**t.” The harassment continued with a substitute teacher who complained about the treatment of President Obama by Republicans. The school district is investigating the situation and taking it seriously. I am amazed to realize that most never really grow up and leave grade school (mentally speaking). Whether the political points of view were valid or not, The behavior of the teachers involved was unacceptable.
