A young man was found hanging in the garden of his family’s stone-built converted farmhouse. Josh Unsworth, a fifteen-year-old, had endured months of abusive messages on his profile on Ask.fm. For those who haven't heard of ASK.fm it has been described by child safety experts as a ‘stalker’s paradise’.
This website allows anonymous postings to anyone who has an account. Some of these account holders are as young as thirteen-years-old. There is no filter or safety net anyone can contact anyone and say whatever they pleas. This is unlike other popular social media sites like Facebook where safety settings have become stricter.
Josh was an avid user of ASK.fm friends and family have turned the fight against bullies to Facebook in hopes to raise awareness on cyber-bullying while their case is being investigated.
Even though things like this happen to young people, the sites where all the detrimental statements come from are still fully functioning with no repercussions.
