How the Effects of Bullying Can Continue Beyond Childhood


More and more research is documenting the lasting legacy of bullying on its victims in nearly every part of their lives. The latest analysis from researchers at the University of Padua in Padua, Italy, sadly confirms the obvious — that children who were bullied suffered from issues with self-esteem, poor grades, and physical health problems that had a direct impact on the state of their health as adults.

After being bullied by a group of girls for over a year, Rebecca Ann Sedwick, a seventh grader from Florida, jumped to her death. According to the investigators, she was bullied through various social network sites.

Car fanatics gathered in Wyoming to support the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association and Bridge Youth Services Anti-Bullying Program. The program brings students together that have been bullied, are bullies, and defenders for students who are bullied so they can talk about their problems weekly.

Cyber bullying has been seen as an “emergency public health problem” and Pennsylvania is considering criminalizing it. Last spring the plan to take action towards criminalizing cyber bullying collectively passed out of the House committee.

Texting Option added to Bullying Hotline


After introducing the anti-bullying voice line two years ago, Boston Public Schools has added a text-message feature for bullied victims. The text-message feature is an added component to encourage students to feel comfortable reporting their problems to people who can help.
