Cyber bullying has been seen as an
“emergency public health problem” and Pennsylvania is considering criminalizing
it. Last spring the plan to take action towards criminalizing cyber bullying
collectively passed out of the House committee.
Laws may not completely
eliminate cyber bullying, but it will put a slow to it if bullies are being
punished. Bullying is far too common in society and victims are taking their
own lives because of it. The Pennsylvania District Attorney Association
supports the plan, but they agree malicious intent would have had to be present
in the case. On the other hand, the state chapter of the American Civil
Liberties Union is not in favor of the plan. They believe it against the
constitution because it basically sensors free speech. The details are still to
be determined, but all of the efforts made by Pennsylvania would help eliminate
bullies.
