When we often think of bullying, school-aged children
often come to mind, but bullying among senior citizens is also common. The
majority of this is occurring within the walls of senior facilities between
residents.
Ten to 20 percent of these residents and visitors to these
facilities report being the victim of bullying. A Massachusetts woman who
resides in senior housing reported verbal abuse through racial slurs, while
others complain of physical threats and group disruption in addition to abusive
language. A resident of a senior establishment in Kansas City even attempted
suicide after experiencing bullying from another senior in the home.
