Canada Raises Awareness of Bullying with Pink Shirt Day

An annual anti-bullying event in Canada called Pink Shirt Day is celebrating its seventh year anniversary. Pink Shirt Day has grown immensely since its emergence by two high school students in 2007 and has reached people globally, even as far as Nova Scotia.
“In 2013, nearly seven million worldwide participated in the initiative.” The event started when a student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school and the next day two students wore and passed out pink shirts for fellow students to wear. Proceeds from t-shirt sales go toward non-profit organizations that assist kids and teens that may be bullied, such as Kids Help Phone. Last year, Pink Shirt Day raised nearly $275,000 to help fund such resources.
