A group of high school students
have developed a new Android game with the objective of raising awareness about
bullying and hopefully prevent any future incidents. They hope to do so by
empowering kids to stand up against their perpetrators and do something about
it.
Senator Mark Kirk has been
supporting the group of high school developers, aiming to raise awareness on
bullying and the negative effects. He said it was rough enough for him growing
up as a self-described “nerd” and the stakes for those bullied on social media
are higher and has led some to commit suicide.
Kirk suggested making public
service announcements and lectures, but the Student Advisory Board opted for a
game app. The app is aimed towards the K-5 crowd as opposed to teens, since the
application is more suitable for that age group and there would be a better
chance of reaching the younger group.
It was also suggested my Senator
Kirk, that the game be sent to each elementary teacher in Illinois and is
asking other members of congress to follow and do the same.
