High school bullying horror stories
seem to keep getting worse as the years go by. This is a prime example of the
horrific situations teenagers make each other go through to “be part of” or
have a sense of belonging within a group.
This past
week in Sayreville, NJ seven boys on the football team were arrested causing
the football program to be cancelled this year. Older members of the football
team have been reported turning off the lights and pinning down younger members
of the team while teammates helped assault the victims. Not only that, in some
cases the victims would be sexually assaulted by the upper classmen as well. As
most of the parents, faculty, and community are filled with confusion and
dismay, some parents are upset that the actions of the few have caused the
program to be cancelled. Needless to say, the bullying epidemic is getting out
of control and needs to be squashed.
