Bullying is already an everyday problem
with students in middle schools and high school across the country. It’s hard
enough to keep track of who is causing physical and even worse, psychological
damage to innocent kids.
Now there’s an app called Yik Yak, that
allows users to post completely anonymous posts on a location based board, in
which anyone inside that ration can post anything they want, while remaining
completely anonymous to the public.
The concept of the app is great,
creating a community where people can communicate with each other anonymously
to post either entertaining posts, ranging from jokes, to helpful tips about
local places, and restaurants.
The dark side of the service has come
to light, now that people are reporting cases of bullying seen on the app.
People are writing hurtful anonymous posts about other kids in school, and
there isn’t much that can be done about it afterwards, since the posts are kept
anonymous regardless of the consequences.
The app has been banned from at least
two local districts, and it has been blocked on school devices and networks as
an attempt to avoid any more harm being done on innocent children, who are
being anonymously harassed.
