A fifth grade teacher is being acclaimed for her efforts
to detect and combat potential bullying in her classroom. A blog post about
Kathy Pitt’s “brilliant Love Ninja strategy” has gone viral with over 4 million
views since its posting in January.
Pitt’s strategy uses prevention to keep
bullying out of her classroom and identifies students more prone to bullying by
the use of index cards. The teacher asks her students to put the names of
children in their class they want to get to know and submit it on an index card
anonymously. When certain students’ names don’t show up frequently, Pitt puts
extra effort into monitoring their interaction to prevent any bullying or
exclusion.
